Meiji Shrine

Visitors can experience serenity amidst beautiful surroundings at the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. Dedicated to the memory of the Meiji Emperor and Empress, this 1920s shrine is set in gardens filled with countless trees of hundreds of different varieties. The calm atmosphere is enhanced by birdsong and the murmuring of streams.

The thickly-wooded compound also includes an inner garden where irises bloom in June and a treasure museum containing items related to the Emperor Meiji and Empress Dowager Shoken.
