Ocean: There is no license fees for ocean fishing.
Rivers and Lakes: There are generally fees for fishing rivers and lakes in Japan. Unlike most parts of the world, each lake and river has a set fee for the day. In Japan, you buy a license for one day for a particular place. The fee can run from 500 yen to 1500 yen or more. Yearly license is available, but quit expensive, about 12,000 yen for one lake.

Boats Cannot use own boat. Boats are for rent for Red (Sockeye) Salmon and smelt fishing for 2500 Yen for 1 person or 3500 for 2 people only.
Sagamiko

Season All year.
Boats Cannot use own boat. Rental boats are available.
Tsukuiko
License None
Season All year.
Boats Cannot use own boat.
Yamanakako
License 1000 Yen daily fee. 5000 Yen for yearly permit.
Season All year.
Boats Can use your own boat. Must get a permit from the Yamanakako town office. It is free and last forever. Wise to get before planning your trip there as they may be closed when you go.
